Spatial Sonata is a Jakarta-based spatial design practice founded on the belief that architecture begins with the experience of the space within. The practice approaches the interior not as the outcome of a building, but as the place from which architecture takes form. Material is regarded as more than a means of construction. It establishes continuity, reveals the passage of light, and gives permanence to the character of a place. Rather than pursuing a fixed language, each project is allowed to develop through its own material presence, spatial circumstances, and mode of inhabitation.

Led by Eric Ekaputra and Ilka Jovita, the practice works in architecture, interior environments, furniture, and object design. These are understood not as separate disciplines, but as different expressions of the same architectural thinking. The proportion of a room may begin with the logic of a piece of furniture, just as the logic of an object may inform the experience of a room. Design is therefore approached as a continuous conversation, where decisions remain connected as they move from one context to another.

The work is grounded in close engagement with materials, construction, and the process of making. Drawings, mock-ups, and built work are treated as complementary forms of observation, each revealing qualities that cannot be resolved in isolation. Precision emerges through this process, allowing architecture to acquire its character gradually, through accumulated decisions rather than singular gestures.
